I can’t believe our Year 12 students have finished.
For many, the regular alarm clock (usually Mum or Dad!) will now come to an end. Seeing so many students arrive on their final day wearing their old primary school shirts left me reflecting on just how quickly the years pass by. It seems only yesterday they were walking through our gates for the first time, and now they are preparing to embark on the next chapter of their lives.
Their enthusiasm and engagement throughout Spirit Week was a fitting way to conclude their time at Como Secondary College. More importantly, it was a reminder of the remarkable young people they have become. They have shown resilience, kindness, humour, leadership and a genuine commitment to one another. To our Year 12s, thank you. We hope you look back on your time at Como Secondary College with fondness, pride and, hopefully, not too many tremors from the memories along the way!
For those students undertaking Mock Examinations, good luck. This is your final tune-up before the real thing, so please take the opportunity to carefully consider the feedback you receive. Use it to refine your preparation and build confidence for the weeks ahead.
I also can’t believe I forgot to mention the amazing sit-down meal prepared by our Year 12 Food Science and Technology students last week. Many staff and students, including myself, were fortunate enough to be invited to enjoy a menu of delectable dishes accompanied by exceptional service. The quality of both the food and hospitality was outstanding.
Congratulations to all the students and staff involved, and especially to Freddy, who invited me to attend.
This afternoon we have our Como Connect event, which will see students and staff engaged in a wide range of activities across the college. From bocce to football and everything in between, the school will be a hive of activity. This initiative was developed by our Wellbeing and Culture Professional Learning Community and reflects our ongoing commitment to building positive connections across our school. We hope this becomes a regular feature of life at Como.
Parents and carers, please don’t miss the opportunity to have your say in shaping the future direction of our school. I invite you to join me on Monday evening at 7.00 pm in the staffroom for a workshop focused on developing the Como Way and informing key elements of our new Business Plan. Your voice is important and I would welcome your involvement.
As always, it has been another busy week. Students have participated in Lightning Carnivals, CREATE excursions, and visits to the Swan Valley for our IEC students, while guest speakers have been engaging students across the college. There is certainly never a dull moment at Como Secondary College.
You may also have noticed that our school sign is back. We have been reassured that this one is here to stay! You may also have spotted one of our transportable classrooms being relocated to make way for the exciting new building project, with construction scheduled to commence in early 2027.
A reminder to families to please submit enrolment forms as soon as possible if you have children joining us next year. Early enrolments greatly assist our planning and organisation for 2027.
Finally, one of our Year 12 students finished his school days in the best possible way during the final round of our Golf Program. Congratulations to Shane on achieving a hole-in-one. Watching his teammates celebrate the moment with him was absolutely priceless. It was one of those genuine sporting moments that everyone present will remember for a very long time.
What a wonderful memory to take with him as he leaves Como Secondary College.
Have a great weekend, especially the Swannies.
