Alumni are encouraged to stay connected after completing their high school journey with opportunities to ‘give back’ to the school community including guest speaking and mentoring current students.
Since Como Secondary College was established in 1969, many students have gone on to make valuable contributions to their local and global communities. From doctors to Olympians, many alumni are proud to say they attended our school.

Alex Armanios (2016)
I joined Como Secondary College in 2013, where I was part of the EMITS program. My time at Como nurtured my growing interest in science, giving me valuable opportunities to practise the scientific method and develop my academic writing skills. After graduating in 2016, I went on to study medicine at the University of Western Australia. Since 2023, I’ve been working as a doctor at various hospitals south of the river.
Driven by the passion for scientific inquiry that I developed during high school, I’ve contributed to several research projects focusing on breast, colorectal, pancreatic, and adrenal gland cancers. My work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and I’ve had the privilege of presenting my findings at international surgical conferences in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates. Alongside my clinical and research roles, I’m also passionate about teaching. I worked as an ATAR tutor throughout university and now supervise medical student research as a junior doctor.
My ultimate goal is to become a general surgeon—a path that will involve many more years of training. Through this, I hope to translate my research into meaningful patient care by treating operable cancers.
Josiah Edwards (2024)
The program helped me not only develop my technical skills and knowledge of the game, but it also taught me important values including discipline, resilience, and time management.
Balancing schoolwork with training pushed me to stay organised and focused, which l know continues to benefit me now both on and off the course. It shaped me into a more well-rounded person with the ability to handle pressure and challenges positively.
The Como Secondary College coaches genuinely cared about our growth and gave personalised feedback that made a huge difference in my game. The facilities gave us access to everything we needed to train at a high standard. Being in that environment day in and day out really pushed me to raise my standards.
The program gave me the foundation I needed to take the next step into elite golf. Competing at a high level while still at school prepared me for the demands of national and international tournaments. It gave me the experience, confidence, and belief that I could compete with the best. Without that structure and support, my transition into higher level golf would have been much harder.
I’d recommend the program to any young golfer who wants to take their game seriously while maintaining a solid education. It gives you the best of both worlds, high level coaching and competition, alongside the support of a school that understands what it takes to succeed in sport. You’re surrounded by like-minded people who share the same goals, and it creates an environment where you can really grow as both a golfer and a person.
