As we reach the end of Term 3, it is an opportunity to pause, reflect and acknowledge what has been another busy, successful and rewarding term at Como Secondary College.
Over the past 10 weeks, our college community has been immersed in a wide range of learning experiences, celebrations and opportunities. We have seen students excel in the classroom, represent the College with pride through sport, music and extracurricular activities, engage in wellbeing initiatives such as R U OK? Day, explore future pathways and careers, participate in STEM learning opportunities, and continue to demonstrate the values that make our school such a special place.
One of the highlights of the term has been seeing students embrace opportunities beyond the classroom. Whether competing, performing, leading or simply supporting one another, our students have consistently demonstrated resilience, ambition, care, integrity and effort in all that they do. It is these everyday actions that continue to strengthen our culture and make Como Secondary College a place where everyone can thrive.
Today marked a particularly significant milestone as we farewelled our Year 12 students. Our traditional Year 12 Breakfast and Farewell Assembly provided a wonderful opportunity for students, staff and families to come together and celebrate the journey of this outstanding cohort. There were many moments of reflection, laughter and pride as we acknowledged their achievements and the contributions they have made to our College community over the years.
To our Year 12 students, thank you for the leadership, character and spirit you have demonstrated throughout your time at Como Secondary College. As you prepare for examinations, further study, apprenticeships, employment and future adventures, know that you leave with the best wishes of an entire school community behind you. We are incredibly proud of you and look forward to hearing about the successes that undoubtedly lie ahead.
The South West Hockey Tour has also been underway this week, providing students with an outstanding opportunity to challenge themselves, work together as a team and represent the College in regional competition. These tours are about much more than sport. They build friendships, resilience, independence and memories that students will carry with them long after the final whistle. Thank you to the staff who have given their time to make this valuable experience possible.
Earlier this week, we also welcomed parents and families to our Parent Workshop. It was wonderful to see such positive engagement and hear thoughtful feedback about how we can continue to support our students and strengthen our College community. The conversations were honest, constructive and future-focused, with many valuable ideas shared.
This feedback will help shape The Como Way and reinforce Our Shared Why.
The Como Way exists because schools are about more than academic success. They are communities where people learn how to learn, how to relate to
others and how to contribute positively to the world around them.By providing a common language, shared expectations and a consistent approach to learning,
behaviour and wellbeing,
The Como Way helps us create a culture where everyone belongs, everyone grows and everyone contributes.Together, we model the values we believe in,
develop the capabilities that matter most and demonstrate the behaviours that define who we are.
The Como Way is not simply what we expect of our students. It is who we are as a community and how we choose to learn, act and grow together.
As we close out the term, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to every member of our College community.
To our students, thank you for your commitment to your learning, the respect you show one another and your willingness to embrace every opportunity that comes your way.
To our staff, thank you for the care, expertise and dedication you bring to our students every day. The work that happens behind the scenes often goes unseen, but it has a profound impact on the lives of young people and the success of our College. We also say goodbye to a few staff who have been part of the fabric here at Como. Thank you to Ms Ritchie, Mr Goodenough, Ms Romany and Mr Rizzo. We wish you all the best.
To our families and community members, thank you for your ongoing support, encouragement and partnership. Schools are strongest when we work together, and we deeply appreciate the role you play in helping our students succeed.
As we head into a well-earned break, I encourage everyone to take some time to rest, recharge and enjoy time with family and friends. I look forward to welcoming students and staff back for what promises to be an exciting and productive final term of 2026.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Como Secondary College and for helping create a community where every person is known, valued and supported to achieve success.
And finally, good luck to the Dockers this weekend. Let’s hope they give us all something to celebrate over the holidays!
Have a safe and enjoyable break.
