Health and Physical Education

At Como Secondary College, Health & Physical Education is more than just a subject—it’s a foundation for life. Our HPE program helps students build a strong sense of self, develop respectful relationships, and embrace the benefits of an active lifestyle. Through movement, teamwork, and personal growth, students gain the confidence to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Lifelong Skills, Real-World Confidence

Students learn essential movement skills that open the door to a wide range of physical activities—from competitive sports to recreational fitness. But it’s not just about physical ability. Our program empowers students to make informed health choices, build resilience, and foster meaningful connections with others.

Specialist Courses

Specialist Golf and Hockey offer students access to high quality teaching with experienced staff with exceptional skills within their sport. Designed to extend and provide opportunities within state, national and international competitions. Supported by national and international tours during their time at Como Secondary College.

Pathways for Every Future

Whether students are aiming for university or exploring vocational options, Como’s HPE program offers tailored pathways:

  • ATAR Health & Physical Education for university-bound students
  • General HPE courses and Certificate II in Sport & Recreation for those pursuing alternative study or career routes

In lower school, students enjoy a variety of electives (Outdoor Education, Physical Recreation and Sport Science) that complement the core curriculum, all aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum.

Active, Inclusive, and Fun

From Year 7 through Year 12, students take part in annual carnivals celebrating swimming, athletics, and cross country. This is supported by:

  • 7-10 Lightning Carnivals bring the energy, offering lower school students the chance to dive into sports like netball, football, AFL, beach volleyball and basketball. It’s all about participation and teamwork.
  • Interschool Carnivals are designed to offer students opportunities to compete at higher levels of competition. Has included Futsal, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton and Netball.
