As we move through Week 8, it has been another full and productive week at Como. Thank you to staff for maintaining a strong focus on teaching and to our students who continue to engage positively across the College.
Year 11 and 12 exams are currently underway, and it has been great to see many students applying themselves with purpose. Beyond the assessments themselves, what stands out is the development of study habits, routines and patterns that will support students beyond school. These are the moments where discipline, preparation and consistency matter most.
A reminder to all students that attendance remains critical. Being here, being on time, and being ready to learn makes a significant difference. Take responsibility for your learning, follow up when needed, ask questions when unsure, and seek support early. At the end of the day, it is up to each of you to do the right thing.
On a more serious note, we have had some disappointing and un-Como like behaviours on public transport recently. This is not acceptable. As a result, we have taken action, including suspensions where required. It is important to remember that you are always representing Como Secondary College, both in and out of school hours. It is unfair that the actions of a very small number impact the reputation of the majority of our students, who consistently demonstrate what it means to live The Como Way.
Integrity is one of our core values, and it is not situational. It is about doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. I encourage all students to reflect on this and consider how their actions align with the standards we set for ourselves as a community.
On a more positive note, our Cabaret on the 25th of June is fast approaching, and tickets are selling quickly. This is always a highlight on our calendar and a wonderful showcase of student talent, effort and creativity. I encourage our community to get in early to avoid missing out.
Thank you as well to our community for the feedback provided on our recent communication survey. With over 100 responses, you have given us some clear and valuable insights. One message came through strongly, we need to declutter your inbox. We hear you, and this will directly inform how we refine our communication moving forward. As always, we value working in partnership with families and appreciate the role you play in supporting routines, attendance and study habits at home.
A reminder that next Monday we have our School Board meeting, followed by our P&C/Advancement meeting at 7:00pm. I encourage members of our community to come along and be part of the conversation.
As we move toward the end of term, there are a number of important milestones approaching, including reporting and pathway conversations. Please keep an eye on upcoming communications to ensure you are across key dates and information.
On a lighter note, the World Cup has begun, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you notice a bit more red and white check making its way into our school colours and social media over the coming weeks. While we are all proudly supporting the Socceroos, I would expect everyone to also have a very strong second team… the Vatreni, the mighty Croatia. I suspect there may be a few friendly debates happening around the grounds.
