As always, it has been a very busy fortnight at Como Secondary College, where there truly is never a quiet moment in the life of our vibrant community.
Last week we welcomed nearly 150 incoming Year 7s for 2026 at our Orientation Day. Students had the chance to experience a day in the life of a Como SC student, and it was heart-warming to see many of them imagining themselves as part of our college. Their willingness to meet new friends and embrace what the next six years will bring, reflects the welcoming and inclusive culture we are so proud of here.
That evening we met with parents to share what they can expect from the Como experience; high expectations, strong pastoral care, and a commitment to ensuring every child achieves their personal best. It was lovely to speak with so many new families, answer questions, and help ease some of the natural anxieties that come with seeing children grow up far too quickly.
Our Arts Twilight Night was an absolute joy, even if it did get a bit chilly. Performances from our Drama, Dance, and Music students were captivating, and the art displays showcased the extraordinary creativity that thrives here. Watching students grow from tentative Year 7s into confident, expressive senior artists is a testament to their dedication and the incredible work of our Arts staff. Seeing families come together to celebrate their achievements is always a highlight and reinforces the strong community spirit that defines Como SC.
Last Friday, I also met with architects and project officers to continue progress on our $30 million rebuild. This is a project that will shape the future of Como SC for generations. We reviewed the rendered designs and discussed how to ensure the new facilities truly reflect who we are: future-focused, inclusive, and committed to providing exceptional learning environments for every child. Our Golf and Hockey Specialist Programs hosted their induction and welcome evenings this week, bringing together new families, passionate coaches, and committed staff. These programs are a point of pride for our college, and 2026 is shaping up to be another outstanding year with talented and enthusiastic young athletes eager to make their mark.
We held our final Board meeting for the year this week, and I want to publicly acknowledge our Board members for their ongoing support. Their commitment to strengthening governance, guiding strategic directions, and championing our students has been invaluable. Their work has made my transition into my first year as Principal of this wonderful college far smoother, and I am genuinely grateful.
Earlier this week our CREATE students attended Cats the musical. While they were blown away by the production, it was the audience who were blown away by them. We received multiple commendations praising their behaviour, politeness, and willingness to proudly share their Como experience. Our students consistently represent our college with integrity and maturity, and this feedback reflects the culture of respect and responsibility we work hard to build.
Today our Wellbeing PLC has organised a range of activities, from soccer and other sports to board games and new House trophies for the victors. These have all been designed to strengthen connections and build a sense of belonging across the school. This initiative has energised our students and staff, and it will continue into 2026 as part of our broader commitment to whole-school wellbeing and culture.
Next week will be a week of celebrations and acknowledgements. We will be hosting our EMITS, Golf and Hockey celebratory events and also acknowledging all of our students with Good Standing with our end of year Adventure World excursion. It is a pleasant way to end the year and acknowledge those who do the right thing all the time.
As I have said many times, our students are exceptional. Whether in the Arts, academics, sport, or community engagement, they continue to impress everyone they come across. Como Secondary College is a school on the rise, a place where students feel known, supported, and inspired to succeed. I look forward to the next 12 months as we continue strengthening pathways, celebrating achievements, and working together to ensure every Como SC student has a clear pathway and a purposeful and successful future.
