I am delighted to share that the EMITS Awards Night on 9 December 2025 was a resounding success, with an almost full house at the Performing Arts Centre.
We were honoured to welcome two accomplished EMITS graduates—Ms Kathleen Steadman, currently a teacher with the Department of Education, and Dr Quincy Kusnady, a practising doctor—as our guest speakers. Ms Steadman’s video presentation reflected on success, noting that among her greatest achievements were the lifelong friendships forged through EMITS and the enriched learning that supported her career progression. Dr Kusnady delivered an inspiring address, showcasing early EMITS work (including humorous Photoshop images featuring Tim Cook of Apple and actor Andrew Garfield) and explaining how formative IT ideas helped his team win Just Start IT and the WA Innovator of the Year. He also noted that his passion for Human Biology was fostered in EMITS, setting him on the path to medicine.
More than 24 students were recognised with Certificates of Recognition and Certificates of Excellence, making it a memorable evening of celebration and inspiration for all involved.
Each EMITS year group delivered a brief presentation highlighting the following from 2025:
Year 7
– Team problem‑solving in the Have Sum Fun Competition.
– Inquiry learning at WA Museum Boola Bardip, investigating urban wildlife adaptations.
Year 8
– Participation with distinction in the Solar Car Challenge.
– Curtin University STEM excursion and Explore STEM – Girls+ incursion using the micro:bits.
– The Como Black Swans (WARP) robotics team showcasing their engineering at the FIRST Robotics WA Playoffs.
– Continued enrichment through competitions, including Have Sum Fun and the Mathematics Talent Quest.
Year 9
– Ongoing mathematical reasoning in the Have Sum Fun Competition.
– Industry exposure at ECU’s Big Day In and the Careers Expo at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
– BEES Day at Curtin University, exploring Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences.
Year 10
– STEM immersion at Murdoch University and UWA, including the Indigenous Centre, Robotics Lab and Renewable Energy Vehicle Project Lab.
– Insights into WA’s resources sector at the Resource Technology Showcase.
– Entrepreneurship through Just Start IT.
