Dear Families and Friends of Como,
We hope you’ve all had a great start to Term 4. There’s been plenty happening around the College already, and it’s shaping up to be another busy and exciting term.
BYOD Information
I understand there may have been some confusion regarding student devices, and I would like to clarify our approach moving forward.
Como Secondary College continues to provide access to devices for students who need them. However, to better support engagement with our curriculum and to simplify storage and access to learning materials, we recommend that students bring their own device to school. Many students already do so, and this has proven to be highly beneficial for their learning experience. Please note: this is not compulsory.
In regards to where to purchase a device, parents are free to source devices from any supplier of their choice. That said, we have negotiated a very competitive price through our preferred supplier, which may be of interest to families considering a purchase. Solutions IT – BYOD Portal
To ensure devices meet the needs of our learning programs, we recommend the following minimum specifications:
- Storage: 128GB
- RAM: 8GB
- Wi-Fi enabled
- Battery life: Minimum 6 hours
- Keyboard: Physical keyboard preferred for productivity
- Operating System: Windows, macOS, (iPads are not recommended for all curriculum areas)
In the coming week, we will share our Device Guidelines, which will include:
- Detailed specifications
- Student expectations
- Online use agreements

P&C Update
At the P&C Annual General Meeting, the following key points were noted:
- The 2022–2024 audited financial accounts were finalised, confirming the P&C remains financially solvent with a balance of over $20,000.
- All compliance, audit, and reporting obligations have been completed, meaning the Association is in good standing.
However, without a full executive team, the P&C cannot currently meet, manage funds, or approve new initiatives. As a result, the P&C is now suspended, and all positions are vacant. Previous nominations cannot be carried over, and all roles will need to be re-elected at a new AGM in 2026 before operations can resume. In early 2026, expressions of interest will open for all roles, with the goal of holding a new AGM once there is sufficient interest to restart operations.
On behalf of the school community, I extend my sincere thanks to all parents, carers, and staff who have contributed their time and energy over the years. Your efforts have strengthened the sense of community at Como Secondary College, and we look forward to building on that foundation as we prepare for a new chapter in 2026.
Planning for 2026
Planning for 2026 is well underway, and enrolments continue to come in. If you are yet to finalise your child’s enrolment for next year, please do so as soon as possible. I will be leading a school tour for new and prospective students on Tuesday at 9:00am. If you would like to join, please register by calling the office on 9365 2000.
Student Success and Events
Our Interschool Athletics team performed admirably in challenging conditions on Monday. Despite the rain, they showed determination and spirit and did our school proud. Well done to all involved!
This week we also held elections for our 2026 Student Council. It was wonderful to see our candidates present confidently to their peers and the student body participate in the election process — democracy in action at Como!
Yesterday’s Mentally Healthy Expo was another highlight. Service providers joined us on campus to share resources, healthy habits, and wellbeing strategies with our students. A huge thank you to Robyn, our Chaplain, and Kerry, our School Nurse, for putting this event together — and to our students for their engagement and positive spirit throughout the day.
It’s been a strong start to the term, with much more to come as we head toward the end of the year. Thank you all for your continued support and involvement in our wonderful school community.
