Happy World Teachers’ Day!
We are so lucky to have such amazing teachers here at Como Secondary College. I am extremely grateful for everything they do to support our students their care, professionalism and commitment make a real difference every single day. If you see one of our teachers, please take a moment to thank them. It really does mean a lot.
Good luck to our students who started their ATAR exams this week. The hard work has been done, so now it’s time to reap the rewards. We are proud of how you’ve prepared yourselves, and we know you’ll represent the College with pride.
We’ve also had OLNA testing taking place this week, which will continue into next week. Good luck to all students sitting these important assessments, which are an essential step towards achieving WACE.
Our Year 11 students had the opportunity to hear from Armed for Life and comedian Emo Majok this week. Both shared inspiring insights into resilience, decision-making and overcoming adversity — with plenty of laughs along the way! It’s a good reminder that while life throws challenges at us, we always have choices and people who care for us.
We also welcomed many primary school instrumental music students for a music workshop. The campus was buzzing with energy, creativity and enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see our senior music students mentoring the next generation of musicians.
Looking ahead to 2026, we are very excited to announce that Como Secondary College will be hosting the Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) program. The PEAC staff are keen to work alongside our team to engage and grow curiosity in our primary students and showcase what a fantastic school Como SC really is. This partnership is a great opportunity to strengthen our connections with local primary schools and inspire a love of learning early on.
This week, I also had the opportunity to work alongside other principals to discuss the changing needs of our students. It’s clear that while our curriculum remains strong, the world our young people are stepping into is evolving rapidly. Increasingly, careers are becoming “squiggly” that is, non-linear, full of change and opportunity, rather than a single, predictable path.
To thrive in this world, our students need to become agile learners; adaptable, curious and resilient. Agile learning means developing the ability to learn from experiences, challenge ourselves with the unfamiliar and grow through feedback and reflection.
Parents can help support this at home by:
- Encouraging curiosity — ask questions and explore answers together.
- Celebrating mistakes as part of the learning process.
- Promoting independence — let your child problem-solve before stepping in.
- Talking about how adults also learn and adapt in their own lives.
Together, we can help our students build the skills, mindset and confidence they need to navigate whatever future lies ahead.
