Dear Families and Friends of Como,
How great is it to share a meal with friends. Well this week, our Year 12 Food Science and Technology students capped off their school year with a triumphant culinary showcase with their final pop-up restaurant event. In their biggest turnout yet, they served a full house of 40 guests, creating an unforgettable two-course dining experience. Their commitment to their guests was evident in their meticulous attention to dietary needs and the beautiful, professional plating of each dish.
As Ms Romany said, “Their hard work paid off with seamless service and a truly memorable evening. Congratulations to all our Yr 12 Food Science and Technology students on a spectacular final event. We are incredibly proud of their passion, skill, and teamwork.”
Yesterday we marked R U OK? Day, and it was wonderful to see students engaging with one another, sharing pancakes and ice cream, and most importantly, keeping an eye out for their mates. Such a simple act can make a significant difference. Let’s continue to remind ourselves and our young people that looking out for one another matters, every day.
This week also saw our Evacuation Drill run smoothly. All students and staff followed the processes as planned, and it was reassuring to see everything come together so effectively. While we hope such procedures are never needed, in a real emergency it is important that we all know what to do, if the situation ever arises.
On a lighter note, Mr Naidoo and our International students enjoyed a wonderful lunch together, giving students the chance to connect, share stories, and support one another. This weekend, our Junior Concert Band will be performing at the ABODA Music Festival. We wish them all the very best for their performance.
On a personal note, I was honoured to receive an invitation from the Federal Education Minister, the Honourable Jason Clare MP, to attend the National Teacher Workforce Roundtable in Canberra next Friday. To be one of only six Principals invited from across Australia is a privilege, and I look forward to contributing my perspective. Teaching is a vocation that must be seen as vital, respected, and a privilege. While we are fortunate at Como SC to have such dedicated staff, this is not the case in every school across the state. I plan to share insights from my experience across many schools and regions of WA, and to advocate strongly for our profession.
Next week brings more special moments, including the Year 12 Dinner. I am looking forward to mingling with parents and students as we reflect on the efforts and achievements of this wonderful cohort. The following week is Spirit Week, a much-loved tradition where our Year 12s enjoy themed dress-ups and activities as they say goodbye to Como before starting their Mock Exams. Good luck to the Class of 2025—this is your time to shine!
