Term 3 Week 7

Dear Families and Friends of Como

It has been another incredible week.

The highlight was without doubt our Whole School Athletics Carnival. On a beautiful day, the College came alive with colour, competition, and plenty of fun. Students threw themselves into all events with enthusiasm, and the carnival atmosphere was felt right across the grounds. Congratulations to the Green Machine – Pine, who chopped down the competition to claim victory over Flame and Jacaranda. A massive thank you to all the staff who played their part in putting the day together and supporting the carnival in so many ways, and in particular to Mr Francis and his HPE team for the outstanding job they did in making the day such a success.

This week also marked another exciting milestone—the launch of our new school website. We’re thrilled with the fresh design and improved layout, and we encourage families to explore it at www.como.wa.edu.au. In my opinion, it looks fantastic, but we’d love to hear your feedback as we continue to refine it.

As always, the College was buzzing with activity. On Thursday, our Student Council led a very popular Oodie and Hoodie Day, where students embraced comfort while raising funds for the Ivy Barclay Foundation. Well done to our Student Council for their initiative and leadership in putting this together.

Meanwhile, our Golf Academy students have been out representing the College with pride, and our EMITS students continue to expand their horizons through a variety of excursions and incursions. It is always inspiring to see our students so engaged, whether on campus or out exploring new opportunities.

Looking ahead, our Year 12 students are about to begin their Mock Exams. They have put in an enormous amount of hard work, and now is the time for them to show their learning and reap the rewards. We have some outstanding performers among our Year 12s, and I look forward to seeing them continue to achieve.

It is important we support our children, so here are some tips to consider as they prepare for their exams.

Supporting Year 12s during exams – a few helpful tips for families:

  • Balance study and rest: Encourage short, regular study sessions with planned breaks. Sleep is just as important as revision.
  • Healthy routines: Good food, hydration and exercise can help improve focus and manage stress.
  • Reduce distractions: A quiet, organised study space makes a big difference
  • Talk it out: Sometimes, the best way to relieve pressure is a quick chat about how they’re feeling.
  • Encourage perspective: Remind them that while exams are important, they are just one part of their journey.

Como is a busy school full of activity, achievement, and opportunity, and this week has been another great example of that.

Enjoy your weekend!
