Dear Families and Friends of Como
Today we said a heartfelt farewell to our Year 12 students with their final assembly and celebratory breakfast. It was wonderful to be part of the tradition where all staff and students formed a guard of honour, applauding the Year 12s as they made their way out of the gym for the final time. Many have now completed their Mock Exams and are preparing for the upcoming WACE examinations. We wish them every success in the weeks ahead. Others are transitioning directly into the workforce or training pathways, and we are confident they will continue to thrive. They are a great group of young people, and it is reassuring to know the future is in good hands.
Last week I had the privilege of travelling to Canberra to participate in the National Teacher Workforce Roundtable, where I engaged with colleagues and education leaders from across Australia. It was clear that teachers nationwide face the challenge of more and more of society’s issues being placed in their hands—be it social and emotional wellbeing, behavioural concerns, or family complexities. One thing is certain: every teacher wants to teach, and as a society, we must clear the path to allow them to do just that. Hearing perspectives from every state and territory was both enlightening and motivating as we continue our work here at Como SC.
Closer to home, our School Board has endorsed the rollout of a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program, beginning next year all EMITS, CREATE, and Senior School students will be expected to bring their own laptop to school. To support this, the school has partnered with Solutions IT to provide a purpose-built portal that simplifies device procurement and support. Families will enjoy access to school-approved devices, accessories, insurance, and repair services—all at exclusive education pricing. More information will be shared early next term.
A friendly reminder: with warmer weather approaching and UV levels rising, students will be expected to wear hats when out on the oval next term. Sun safety is a priority, and we ask for your support in ensuring students come prepared.
As we wrap up another busy term, it’s worth reflecting on some of the incredible moments we’ve shared as a College:
Book Week – A week full of fun activities, quizzes, and of course, the brilliant Year 12 dress-ups that brought our favourite characters to life.
Athletics Carnival – A stunning day of competition, spirit, and colour, capped off by Pine taking out the shield.
R U OK? Day – Pancakes, ice cream, and most importantly, conversations that reminded us of the power of checking in on one another.
Spirit Week – Our Year 12s celebrated their final days at Como with tradition, creativity, and plenty of laughter.
Hockey triumphs – Our Girls team taking out the Buchanan Cup, and our Boys team narrowly missing in a thrilling David Bell Cup final.
Performing Arts – Music, dance, and jazz performances at state-level competitions showcased our students’ creativity and talent.
EMITS excursions and competitions – Students exploring science, technology, and innovation through engaging incursions, trips and excursions.
Golf Academy success – Continuing to perform with excellence and representing Como with pride at prestigious competitions.
It has been a term filled with energy, opportunity, and achievement. We have amazingly talented students and equally dedicated, amazing staff who go above and beyond to engage and get the best out of our students. I hope all of us continue to reflect on, and be grateful for being part of such an awesome school, and remind our young people of just how capable they are.
As we close the term, I want to thank our students, staff, and families for their ongoing commitment and support.
