COVID Update 29 June 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

The Director General of Education, Lisa Rodgers, addressed Principals at 9:00am this morning to issue guidelines, following the Premier implementing the lockdown last night. The general message is that schools are remaining open on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer, as part of a measured and proportionate response. However, if the situation changes based on the results of extensive testing, the Chief Medical Officer will have no hesitation in closing schools

While the situation regarding COVID-19 continues to evolve, the Department of Education sector has established plans and a team to support schools. It is important that as a school community we apply common sense, factual information and a practical approach to COVID – 19. As soon as we know exactly what is happening and what we will be doing, we will post the details on Connect, Facebook and our website.

If you choose to keep your child home, their absence will be recorded as a reasonable excuse. In this situation teachers are not obliged to provide work. It will be up to individual teachers as to whether they provide work for students not attending school. If an assessment is scheduled during this time they will not be disadvantaged.

Parents and carers of students in specialist programs will be advised directly by the teachers concerned of any impacts on their course such as the cancellation of practice or after-school activities.

Please do not send your child to school if they are coughing, or have a runny nose, or a sore throat, or have a fever. Students experiencing these symptoms will be sent home. Teachers and other staff experiencing these symptoms will also be sent home. Teachers and other staff experiencing these symptoms have been provided the same advice.

For the safety of our students and staff, masks will be worn at our school. Most disposable masks should only be worn for four hours so please send your child to school with an additional replacement mask. Our staff will support students to understand the importance of wearing a mask as we work through this transition together.

The canteen will remain open.

Uniform Concepts, Willetton has gone into lockdown and at this stage will re-open as planned in Week 2 of the holidays.

Parents may come into the school but I would ask that you only do so if it is absolutely necessary. You must sign in. We also have a SafeWA QR code and we would encourage you to use it, however, you must also sign our register.

Parents picking up or dropping –off their child need to be wearing a mask if outside of their vehicle and maintain physical distancing.

I want to assure you that the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is our top priority and we will continue to follow the latest WA Health advice at .

Thank you to all students and parents for your understanding and support during the lockdown.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the school on 9365 2000.

Kind regards

Digby Mercer
