Last Friday, I met with the architects and project managers regarding our exciting $30 million build, which is scheduled to begin construction late next year. There’s still much planning to be done, but rest assured, we’re working hard to ensure that any new development ties in seamlessly with our existing buildings and beautiful natural environment. Como’s character is something we all value deeply, and we’ll be protecting that as we move forward.
I’m also very pleased to confirm that our air-conditioning upgrade will begin over the Christmas break. This will now ensure reverse-cycle air-conditioners are installed in every classroom, creating a more comfortable and productive environment for both students and staff — something we’re all looking forward to.
Our ATAR students continue their exams, and our Year 11s are currently completing their In-School Tasks (ISTs) as preparation for next year’s external assessments. OLNA testing also continues, and it’s been great to see students taking these important assessments seriously. Their commitment is to be commended.
Next week will be another exciting one, with our Technologies Showcase happening on Tuesday. This event will feature an impressive display of student work, along with some delectable delights prepared by our talented students. It’s always a fantastic celebration of creativity, skill and innovation — we can’t wait to share it with you.
A reminder that next Friday is a pupil-free day due to our School Development Day. This will give staff time to review our data, assess progress and plan for 2026. With new curriculums coming into effect, there’s a great deal of preparation underway — and, as always, our staff will be hard at work (as if they aren’t already! 😄).
Another exciting development is that the Department of Education will be filming a virtual tour of our school. This project aims to showcase Como Secondary College to international students, highlighting our facilities, classrooms and vibrant school culture. As a preferred destination for many international families, this is a great opportunity to share what makes Como such a special place to learn and grow.
As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, don’t forget about the range of secondary school scholarships now available to students across Western Australia. These scholarships recognise achievement, potential and contribution to school life, and provide wonderful opportunities for support and enrichment. Of particular interest to Como students is the Bentley Senior High School Scholarship, which offers funding and opportunities for motivated students in our region.
