Dear Families and Friends of Como
It has been another busy and productive week here at Como Secondary College. Our Year 7 students received another round of immunisations, PISA testing was conducted, and we had countless incursions and excursions taking place across the College. There has been plenty happening both in and out of the classroom, and it’s been wonderful to see our students engaging so actively in their learning.
One of the standout highlights of the week was in Hockey. Our Girls Team played superbly to win the Buchanan Cup with a hard-fought 2–1 victory. Their determination, teamwork, and spirit were on full display—congratulations on this fantastic achievement!
Our Boys Team were equally impressive in the David Bell Cup final, unfortunately going down 2–1 in the final minutes of a pulsating match. Although the result was heartbreaking, their sportsmanship, effort, and skill made us all proud. Well done to all involved—both teams certainly stood out as wonderful representatives of the College.
This week also saw our Year 12 Outdoor Education students on camp, trekking and testing their resilience in the great outdoors. It was a challenging and rewarding experience, and no doubt each of them will be very grateful to return home to a soft mattress and warm bed! A special thank you goes to the staff who supported and guided them through this memorable adventure.
While the weather has unfortunately disrupted some of the lead-up events, we are excited to be holding our Whole School Athletics Carnival on Tuesday. Good luck to all students and factions—it’s always one of the highlights of the year. Let’s make it a day full of energy, colour, and great school spirit.
Finally, I want to touch on an important reminder about social media use. This week we have again seen how online platforms can negatively impact our students. It is important for families to be aware that children often use far more than just SMS or the accounts they show you. Many have multiple profiles across apps, with some being hidden from parents. Please take the time to check what platforms and accounts your children are using, and have open conversations with them about respectful behaviour online. Together, we can help keep all our students safe from harassment and bullying.
