The Como Golf Academy is dedicated to producing highly skilled career golfers. Golf becomes the central option of study and is carefully integrated with the students’ mainstream school program.
The Golf Academy is designed for students who demonstrate developing golf playing ability. It is essential students can exhibit behaviours that reflect a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn new skills and teamwork. Golf demands excellent co-operation and adherence to complex strategies and tactics, therefore appropriate behaviour is expected at all times.
Coaching is delivered by PGA Professionals from the adjoining Collier Park Golf Course, who draw their well-honed expertise from coaching at state and national level. Golf students have access to all golf facilities at Collier Park including a 27-hole golf course, grass driving range and short game facilities. The Golf Academy also uses state of the art analysis equipment including a Flightscope launch monitor.
The Golf Academy students also complete golf-specific fitness training within the world-class Strength and Conditioning centre at Curtin University. Students undertake study in the areas of nutrition, sports psychology and on-course strategies and tactics to build a healthy, comprehensive sportsperson.
All students who successfully complete the Golf program have the opportunity to achieve:
- A nationally recognised First Aid Certificate
- Accreditations under the Australian Institute of Sport’s National Coaching & Officiating Accreditation Scheme
- Accreditation from the School Curriculum Standards Authority endorsed program – Recreational Pursuits (ADRP)
- Royal and Ancient (Randa) Rules of Golf Certificate
Upon completion, students have the opportunity to enter the world of golf and pursue a variety of golf-related careers including PGA Professional, coaching and golf operations. The Como Golf Academy and its students frequently win or place highly in State and National titles including the Australian School Teams Championship and the School Sport WA School Teams’ Championship, which they have won a record 15 times.
