As we conclude Term 1, I am incredibly proud of what has been achieved across Como Secondary College over the past term. It has been a term defined by energy, opportunity and a strong sense of purpose, with students, staff and families working together to create a positive and productive learning environment.
Throughout the term, we have celebrated academic excellence, student leadership, cultural diversity, wellbeing initiatives and a wide range of learning pathways. From the 95 Club celebrations and scholarship awards, to STEM success, vocational learning experiences, sporting achievements and specialist programs, our students have continued to demonstrate Integrity, Care, Ambition, Effort. Events such as Open Day, Harmony Day, carnivals and excursions provided valuable opportunities to strengthen connection, build community and showcase what makes Como Secondary College such a special place to learn.
Student voice has also been a strong feature this term. Our Student Council has engaged thoughtfully with school processes, demonstrated leadership through service initiatives and fundraising, and modelled what it means to contribute positively to the wider community. Alongside this, we have continued to emphasise the importance of attendance, routine and high expectations, knowing that consistency and good habits are critical to long‑term success.
As always, the final weeks of term have arrived quickly. This week in particular has seen us inundated with end‑of‑term items, a reminder that trying to squash ten weeks into nine is always challenging. Despite this, the tone across the College has remained positive, purposeful and respectful. Yesterday’s Captain’s Cup was a fitting highlight, with students demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, engagement and enthusiasm. They were a credit to themselves and to the College.
Today, we were privileged to welcome several distinguished visitors to our school, including the Premier of Western Australia, the Minister for Education, our local Member, the Director General of Education and the President of the SSTUWA. They spent time walking the site, engaging with students and staff, viewing our upgrade plans, listening to student voice and discussing how we can continue to work together in the best interests of young people. Their genuine interest in our students, our learning environment and our future direction was affirming, and I encourage families to keep an eye on their social media pages over the coming days.
Most importantly, I want to sincerely thank our entire school community for what has been a tremendous term. Our staff, in particular, have been exceptional. Their professionalism, care, flexibility and commitment to students does not go unnoticed, and I am extremely proud to be the Principal of this amazing College.
To our students and families, thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. I wish everyone a safe and restful break, a happy Easter spent with loved ones. Disconnecting and resting is important for all of us. and I look forward to welcoming you all back for the start of Term 2 on 20 April.
