Members Information

Much of the information about the general “running” of our Academy are outlined below:

TRAINING UNIFORMS

Training uniforms are to be paid for at the HUB or front office before being picked up from the from the Hockey Office (not the Como Secondary College Uniform Shop). Students are required to show hockey staff a copy of the receipt before training uniforms can be issued.

Gryphon and F-H-E kindly provides our training uniforms at a generous price, for us to sell back to you for no-profit. From time to time uniforms do change slightly, though this is not a problem for you! As long as you are wearing one of the many styles (donned with the Academy logo) then you are considered to be “in uniform” and ready to train!

Training socks are also available for you to purchase and are available in all white and all navy. We suggest you purchase at least one of each colour as these will double as your team socks for representative matches. For training we do not mind if you wear alternative socks, perhaps your club socks, as we are sure you have enough washing to do already!

Training Uniform prices are as follows:

Shirt (boys/girls cut)                  $35

Shorts (boys/girls cut)              $30

Socks                                           $10

* Girls who wish to train in a skirt may inquire about special orders. They have been priced at $40 in the past. Alternatively you are welcome to purchase a navy skirt from your local club or sports store.

* Senior/Junior Representative Uniforms are provided for all official matches

* There are “older” style training uniforms available in limited sizes. Ask at the hockey office for more details. These are sold at a discounted price.

EQUIPMENT STORAGE

As hockey equipment bags (kit bags and goalkeepers bags) are large and difficult to carry around, we provide a sea-container for secure storage during the school day. There is a key kept in the hockey office for students that wish to access the container at odd times of the day, but otherwise your class leaders will be provided with a key and will assume the responsibility of access to the container for his or her class. The container should be available to access before and after school (approx. 15minutes prior to the start of P1 & following P5/6), as well as immediately prior to hockey class. As this gear is a hazard in the classroom students will not be permitted to carry their equipment to classes other than hockey. Under special circumstances (e.g. catching an early bus home) students may need to carry their hockey bag to last period. It is agreed with all staff at that these students liase directly with each of their P5 or P6 teachers in order to make alternative arrangements for equipment storage.

HOCKEY EQUIPMENT SUPPLIERS & SUPPORT

We are extremely lucky to have the support of all major hockey suppliers in Perth. At this stage F-H-E (previously Hockey Action) & Hockey International will provide heavily discounted prices for Como Hockey Academy Members. This discount may vary depending on the item and we suggest you discuss this with the individual stores to be sure. If you require proof of your son/daughter’s membership with the academy please ask the store to contact Tate on 0412 771 245 for clarification.

The Perth Hockey Stadium is a first class facility and the students certainly appreciate the privilege of its use for a reduced cost. It is for this reason we ask the families of the Academy to support the Perth Hockey Stadium and Hockey WA wherever they can during their time at the Academy to reflect our appreciation of their support. This may include offering to volunteer time to provide officiators such as ball persons for important event such as National & International Tournaments.

EVENTS

Families will be notified of special events either through their class teacher, or through the recently established “Newsboard” link on the website.

PERIOD ZERO CLASSES

The Como Hockey Academy utilise a “trade-off” period option within our timetable. This means we trade a Period 5 for a Period 0 on an alternative day. This allows each class to maximise turf time and decrease travel time to and from the Perth Hockey Stadium.

Period 0 classes begin at 7.50am and all students are expected to meet their teacher at an agreed location ON school grounds at this time. Students are not permitted to travel to the stadium to meet their class, under any circumstances. This is a matter of duty of care and is treated very seriously by staff of the Academy.

As a school requirement students will not be permitted to stay on the school grounds after lunch on the day of the trade off (P5). All students must leave the school by 2.00pm, or 2.10pm on Thursday's (certain individual needs can be discussed). We are aware that this might cause some new travel arrangements to be made, however, the benefits to the class and your child by having a full 95-110 minutes on the turf at one time is an opportunity that we would not like to pass up.

WHEN YOU ARE LATE TO PERIOD ZERO CLASS

You must not expect to be able to contact your Period 0 teacher on the morning of Period 0 class. Because of this, if you are late for whatever reason, you are expected to go to school, NOT the stadium.

This is a serious duty of care matter and families must be aware of the issues associated with this policy. Unforeseen circumstances may see the Period 0 venue, or lesson structure change (e.g. staff member is sick) and it is therefore extremely important that students always go to school first.
