On June 3rd 2008, the Year 10 Emits class visited the Curtin University Spatial Sciences Department to get some hands on experience with measuring and surveying equipment.

The students were first divided up into 3 groups and progressed around a series of surveying and measuring activities such as surveying the rise and fall of topography with Clinometers, using Theodolytes to measure angles and distances, and going on a co-ordinate walk around the campus using hand held GPS devices.

Following this, the students broke for lunch, and afterwards went into the computer labs where they were introduced to GIS systems, and finally had a go at using a basic GIS system with a Google Earth exercise.
